Crescent Rolls Whipped Honey Butter
For the Crescent Rolls recipe you will need:
If you're new to all of this and don't know what "scalded" milk is I'll tell you. First of all, I use canned evaporated milk, diluted to half and half with water, for almost all cooking because it won't curdle. To "scald" the milk, just put the milk in the saucepan and heat until it gets that slight skin over the top. That is "scalded" milk.
To make this recipe mix the milk, butter, and sugar in a saucepan and heat until the butter is melted. Cool the mixture to about 115°F then add the yeast and stir well. Wait a few minutes to "proof" the yeast. Once the yeast has started foaming well add the eggs, salt, flour and mix to a smooth, soft dough.
Knead lightly on a floured surface then place dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let rise until double in bulk. Divide dough into 2 equal balls. Roll each ball out into about a 10 inch circle. Brush the dough with melted butter. Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into even wedges just like you would cut a pie.
To shape the crescent rolls begin rolling each triangle with the wide end, rolling toward the center and place on the pan with the small end down so it doesn't unroll. Curve the dinner roll slightly to make a moon shape. Continue until all the dough has been cut and rolled into crescents.
Cover the rolls with a damp towel and let raise until double. Bake at 375°F for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush the tops with melted butter and serve.
These will be nice flaky dinner rolls and will look so pretty with your meal!
Now, one last thing for that luscious homemade bread...whipped honey butter! It only takes a few minutes to make and will really top off that bread. You will need:
Let the butter set at room temperature to soften. Put the butter in the mixer bowl and while beating drizzle in the honey until you have the sweetness to your taste.
Continue to whip until the butter gets light and it's done! If you refrigerate it after whipping it will get firm again so it needs to be left at room temperature until you serve the meal.
Don't forget to come back for our third show when we will be making pies. If crust has been the bane of your existence as a cook we'll get that crust whipped into shape!
